P954

This is a fantastic vintage dip pen.  It is shaped like a gun. The dip pen is in the wooden grip of the gun. The pencil is the barrel. Best of all, you open the chamber of the gun and inside is a small traveling inkwell in the shape of a bullet.
The gun measures 6 3/4" from the tip of the octagon barrel to the end of the grip where the lanyard is. Most of the gun is nickel plated brass and the grip is wood. The dip pen has a rough edge where you install the nib and I think it has been shortened a little. A lot of the old dip holder were shortened after the ink corroded the end. The pencil screws into the butt and it is spring loaded. When you pull the trigger, the pencil pops out of the end of the barrel. To get at the inkwell, you have to unscrew the pencil and open the chamber. The bullet shaped inkwell slides apart and inside it has a screw on lid. There is a small glass bottle inside the metal shell. I could not find a mark for country of origin, but I will guess it is Germany or England.
I have not seen another one just like this and I would guess that the bullet shaped inkwell would be missing when you did find one.

P956

Vintage figural dip pen and pencil combo that is shaped like an umbrella. It was made in Germany and measures 8 1/4" long. The handle was made from a tree branch. The dip nib is unmarked and has a copper colored finish. The tip of the umbrella pulls out and it is the pencil. You can reverse it and put it back into the case and use the whole umbrella for a pencil. I don't think the dip pen was ever used. The tag on the pen is marked: Phil Weber Jr The Office Mendota Ill. Nice condition.  It was made around 1900-1910.   See This Listing Here
